These are a few of my favorite diseasles

So we just had a very successful Seventh Anniversary event, and even I had the chance to take a turn at the mic during karaoke. Of course I couldn’t just sing a regular karaoke song. I took the stage and asked DJ Anna to cue up “These are a Few of My Favorite Things”.

Anna looked at me skeptically and asked, “Really?”.

I simply nodded at her and then removed a folded up piece of paper from my pocket. On that sheet was a set of alternative lyrics that I may have borrowed (and modified) from Mike Agranoff. Here are the lyrics I actually sang:

verse
Smallpox and chicken pox, chronic bronchitis,
Syphilis and typhus and encephalitis,
Sinuses ravaged with coughing and sneezes,
These are a few of my favorite diseases.

verse
Pains that are minor and pains that are chronic.
Hangnails and herpes and plagues most bubonic.
Swine flu that renders you weak in the kneeses,
These are a few of my favorite diseases.

verse
Cancer and hemorrhoids, tuberculosis
Yaws and malaria, multiple s’clerosis,
Chest pains that no simple remedy eases,
These are a few of my favorite diseases.

bridge
When my bowels run And it comes from Montezuma’s Curse,
I simply remember my favorite disease And that makes me feel…much worse.

verse
Gangrene and jaundice severe dermatitis
Ulcers and gallstones and appendicitis
Polio, whooping cough, colds, mumps, and measles,
These are a few of my favorite diseasles.

verse
Smallpox and chicken pox, chronic bronchitis,
Syphilis and typhus and encephalitis,
Sinuses ravaged with coughing and sneezes,
These are a few of my favorite diseases.

verse
Pains that are minor and pains that are chronic.
Hangnails and herpes and plagues most bubonic.
Swine flu that renders you weak in the kneeses,
These are a few of my favorite diseases.

bridge
When neuralgia brings nostalgia for those pains gone by,
I think of diseases I’ve yet to contract, And that makes me want…to die.

Despite my on stage crooning, everyone seemed to have great time all day long. We had good food and lots of fun singing karaoke. Jay Stenger came and played for about an hour on our stage. We also had crafts, and a K9 cop. The K9 cop and his handler volunteered their time and came in on their day off. It was a fantastic day all around.

Not only did our store just have its anniversary, but Shannon is having a birthday today. So be sure to come in and provide your own off-key rendition of Happy Birthday.

We also have a lot of other activities coming up in the not too distant future:

  • Thursday, June 8th, All Day, Shannon’s Birthday ~ A few years ago on June 8th at 3:32AM Shannon came into this world.
  • Friday, June 9th, 6:30ish – 9ish, Board Game Night ~ This has long been a tradition to come in on a Friday and have fun playing games. We have also just added some board games to our shelves that you should come by and check out.
  • Saturday, June 10th, 1PM – 3PM, Tech Help (the group formerly known as Old Men That Sit Around and Talk About Computers) ~ This group meets every Saturday to help others with their tech problems and/or talk about trending technology. We have solved a lot of computer problems for various platforms and devices including phones, smart watches, digital cameras, 3D printers, and we have helped people with numerous software problems ranging from laptop and cell phone apps to even things like Apple Car Play. If you got a new (or problematic) device, bring it in and we can help you set it up. We are also going to start offering classes on everything from how to make your cellphone easier to use, to 3D printing, to flying drones, cord cutting. Let us know what topics you’re interested in and we’ll put together information on that.
  • Saturday, June 10th, 7PM – 8:30PM, Bereans Group ~ This group, which is open to the public, is discussing the Biblical perspective of homosexuality.
  • Tuesday, June 13th, 7PM – 8:30PM, Bible Study ~ We just finished a series on I and II Thessalonians. This week, we will be having a social night with a potato chip buffet and board games. If you’re thinking you would like to join a new Bible study, this could be a good opportunity to meet us and hang out. Next week, we will be starting the book of Exodus.
  • Friday, June 16th, 5ish – 9ish, Extra Long Board Game Night, This is an opportunity to come and play some longer board games. If you can’t make it till the regular time, that is ok as well as there will be others still showing up at 6:30 to play games as well
  • Wednesday, June 21st, 5PM – 7PM, Top Gun: Maverick ~ In a sequel to a film I watched repeatedly as a child we get a great story about redemption and second chances. This film is rated PG-13.

  • Saturday, July 1st, 11AM – noon, LEGO Contest: Food Fight Edition ~ For July’s big LEGO competition, we are encouraging kids to figure out how to make LEGO creations that resemble food. This event is for kids in 1st through 6th grade.

As we’ve recently started selling board games at Lost and Found, I decided to highlight a game that includes a lot of fun story lines, Above and Below.

In this game you have just established a new village. Beneath your village, you discover a vast network of caverns underground, brimming with shiny treasures, rare resources, and untold adventure. How could you limit your new village to the surface? You immediately start organizing expeditions and building houses underground as well as on the surface.

Above and Below is a mashup of town-building and storytelling where you and up to three friends compete to build the best village above and below ground.

Now for the part everyone always asks about, the actual food! Our soup is our hash brown potato soup, our sandwich is a Reuben! Our specialty ice creams are Dark Chocolate Raspberry Truffle and Sugar Cookie ice cream. Our current specialty waffle is a red velvet waffle.

Thanks and God bless,
Sean
